It was looking like a fairly unsuccessful season in Darwin when my accomodation fell through. Never mind I was going camping any way and I head down The Track with the Darwin Baptist Church annual camp before flying south to the dull drums of Queensland.
On the way I home I get a message that I have a few days work printing t-shirts if I want – sure. Turns out he wants me for two months so he can take a week out in Canada, the same church group that got me the job got me a place to live; the blessings of faith can become very real sometimes.
The job turns out to be a whole lot more interesting than I thought it would be. Assisting in a creative process, I’m not used to the commercial environment, but it is business as usual really. Pulling in sets for the Australian Ballet one gig, then fighting off monkeys in a circus next, then screen printing t-shirts in a workshop; I’ve got university qualifications in this process! Now I’ve started on my own line; oppshop shirts with the balloon flower print $45 each at the markets next year.
