Queer at the Foot of the Cross

Queer at the foot of the cross

The good Christians claim their place in heaven is guaranteed. With the way they behave I concede they may be right. But for the gender diverse it is not so easy. The book is clear, people like us don’t get to join in. So we have to count on Jesus letting us in despite the fact we don’t deserve to.
That is not to say we are meant to be guilt ridden about the things we do. Good Christians are cheerful and optimistic; not guilt ridden and insecure. Remember God loves you just the way you are. You are made in the image of God. Place your sins at the foot of the cross. Remembering that that is not an easy thing to do. Be careful about the choices you make; some sins might be hard to hand over, you may hold on to them and be dragged down.
It is important we give the good Christians their space. They find a lot of what we do disturbing and it is not fair of us to push our sins on them. What they are trying to achieve, virgin marriages that work out for life, is a worth while thing to work toward. They don’t need us complicating things.
It is a case of damed if you do damed if you don’t. The churches are meant to be egalitarian and inclusive. Fail to include the gender diverse and they fail in this regard. Then the Christians are meant to try to achieve a level of purity, let the gender diverse in and they are dropping their standards in this regard.
But some Christians are gay. If you are gender diverse and want to be a Christian you have three options:
Celibacy
Pray for healing and live as a heterosexual
Do what comes natural and pray Jesus forgives you
Each has its challenges. Find the churches that welcome the gender diverse and find your spiritual family there. Be humble before the Lord and meditate on the price Christ paid for your sins.
The problem between us and The Bible is in The Old Testament Leviticus 18:22 Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable. This is just before saying the same about having sex with animals. It is in among rules that include don’t cut your hair, don’t ware cotton and wool at the same time, don’t pay attention to time and a ban on all sorts of perfectly good food. It is a part of The Bible that is not taken seriously by most modern Christians or any but the most orthodox Jews for that matter. Now we are under a law that requires us to be kind to everyone first; as Christ would.
Then in the times of Christ there were two cultures mixing at two extremes of sexual conduct. The Jews were very strict about there sexuality and those who claimed to live up to those standards Jesus called hypocrites. It is bad enough to have thought about it. Then the Greeks and the Romans were totally going to town with willed sex parties and rituals using homosexual behaviour as a form of contraception. The problem with this being; you can be pretty sure who your Mum is, but you can only be sure who your Dad is if your mother didn’t sleep around. And if you cant be sure who your Dad is you can’t be sure who your siblings and cousins are. Best the boys stick to the boys. The Apostle Paul was horrified to discover things were so bad in Europe even the women were at it. The gender diverse are among the criminals, insnane and addicts within the church.
The medieval period didn’t treat its homosexuals very well. The renaissance and the enlightenment didn’t see things get much better. Then as part of the social revolution that marked the latter half of the twentieth century the place of the gender diverse came into the limelight. Being gender diverse is no longer a crime. Hate crimes committed against the gender diverse are treated seriously. We have same sex marriage. Some of the churches are starting to question the place of the gender diverse both in the pews and at the pulpit.
No one in the churches is advocating the persecution of homosexuals. That attitude is far more common in the secular community. The debate is over the place of homosexuals in the church. There are three camps:
Homosexual behaviour is a sin and active homosexuals can’t participate in church.
Heterosexual sinners are no better than homosexual sinners; we are all sinners that can find redemption in Christ.
Too hard; lets not talk about it (the largest camp)
For the Gay or Lesbian there is a simple solution, monogynous relationships. Saying that that horse may long have bolted and haply married seems like an impossible dream. Be rest assured there are many heterosexual Christians in the same boat. Just do your best.
The prospect of being made in God’s image is a daunting one for the transgender crowd. God made you to be the person you are, so be true to your self. But be aware that the decisions you make are going to be a difficult put at the foot of the cross. You know there will be times of regret. For the Christian trans there will be times of troubling doubts. Try to hold on to the faith that Jesus’ sacrifice was a sufficient price.
For the Hermaphrodite the prospect of being made in God’s image is something to rejoice in. Given the role these people play in the gender diverse community, these people are a treasure. However there may be issues of forgiveness. People having made decisions on their behalf. Or all the options not being properly explained at a young and vulnerable age. To the world at large I will say; please leave these people alone, they are made in God’s image.
For the bisexual consider your options:
Celibacy
Pray for healing and live as a heterosexual
Do what comes natural and pray Jesus forgives you
Organising group sex sessions is getting dangerously close to the willed sex rituals of the ancient gentiles. Be careful about the choices you make. Some sins are going top be hard to hand over.
For the queer; just when you least expect it, just what you least expect. What a bizarre sex life I’ve had; wondrous and beautiful, then terrible and disturbing. Is celibacy a realistic option? Can I manage a monogynous relationship with my checkered history? Have I not already laid enough at the foot of the cross? I look to the good Christians with envy, they have it better than us, but would I give up my life’s experiences for what they have? I don’t suppose I would; I have my cross to bear. When I go to be with Jesus in eternity it will be with a little fear. But maybe it is healthy to fear the Lord.
On a final note, there is another kind of bi. This kind is not actually gender diverse, they are heterosexuals that think it is cool to talk as if they were gender diverse. They are all talk and no substance. They don’t just talk shit they treat each other like shit and there are venues full of them all over the world. They are not to be confused with dance clubs or gay bars. Dance clubs are about the music and the dancing, bi clubs are about the gossip. You seriously think behaving like that makes you better than other people? No one in the gender diverse community seriously think they are better people for it. To this crowd I say; repent or goto Hell.
